We recommend Purview for records in Microsoft 365, Box Governance for an established Box workspace, Laserfiche Cloud for packaged departmental processes, Nuxeo for a tailored content application, and FormKiQ Business Solutions for regulated records programmes requiring data ownership, residency, and sovereignty controls.
This guide covers cloud-native platforms and vendor-managed cloud applications. The best choice depends on where the records should live, how staff will work with them, and who should control the environment.
We are the team behind FormKiQ, one of the options below. Our recommendations are based on product capabilities, workflow fit, and deployment model. Each product earns its place for a specific use case.
| Product | Our pick for | Operation and hosting | Integration / residency boundary |
|---|---|---|---|
| Microsoft Purview Records Management | governing records where teams already work in Microsoft 365 | Microsoft-managed Microsoft 365 service | Governance of supported Microsoft 365 workloads; tenant licensing and workload coverage matter |
| Box Governance | retention and hold controls for content already in Box | Box-managed service; Box Zones offers storage-region choices | Governance entitlement and connected applications; verify processing geography separately |
| Laserfiche | a managed cloud records application with forms and workflows | Laserfiche Cloud application | Forms and process automation; records and advanced administration vary by plan |
| Hyland Nuxeo | content applications with a tailored data model | Vendor-managed Nuxeo Cloud on AWS | Region is agreed during provisioning; REST integrations and retention extension need solution scope |
| FormKiQ Business Solutions | regulated records programmes requiring data ownership, residency, and sovereignty controls | Your AWS account, dedicated managed, or hybrid | Packaged application plus APIs; customer-managed account and region controls are explicit |
Cloud options differ in who operates the application and owns the infrastructure account. A regional storage option is not automatically a guarantee about metadata, integrations or AI processing. The table distinguishes documented deployment scope from details that need a service-specific agreement.
Purview is our first recommendation for a records programme centred on supported Microsoft 365 workloads. Applying governance where that content already resides avoids introducing a second repository just to hold another copy of the same records. Its labels and file plans support records work within that existing environment.
Purview is an especially good fit for records already in supported Microsoft 365 workloads. It does not replace the business application that collects a loan application or generates an agreement. Licensing, workload coverage and restrictions on automated regulatory-record labelling determine the usable scope.

Box Governance is a direct choice when the collaboration workspace is already Box. Box Zones adds choices about where file content is stored. Storage-region selection, retention entitlement and the processing locations of connected services are separate parts of the cloud decision.
Box is the natural shortlist when staff already collaborate there. Governance is included in some plans and sold as an add-on in others. A preservation archive or sector-specific application needs functionality beyond retention policies on a collaboration workspace.

Further evidence: Box Zones.
Laserfiche Cloud is a strong choice when records staff and business departments need one vendor-managed application for intake, process automation, and records operations. Its packaged cloud offering fits an organisation that wants the application’s capabilities without choosing customer-owned AWS deployment as a requirement.
Laserfiche is particularly attractive when staff want an established application for forms, routing and document administration. Plan boundaries matter: records management, advanced security, participant access and sandbox facilities are not interchangeable across subscriptions. For a simple shared-file workspace, that process design may be unnecessary.
Product details: Laserfiche Cloud features; Laserfiche plan scope.
Further evidence: AI functions and metering.
Nuxeo Cloud is a hosted, managed content platform. Its provisioning documentation describes production and pre-production environments and selecting an AWS region with the customer. That is useful for an extensible content application, but AWS hosting alone does not mean that the infrastructure is in the customer’s own account.
Nuxeo rewards teams prepared to model content and own an extensible application. Retention and content-intelligence extensions require deliberate version and service choices. A department seeking a ready-to-use filing and approval process should compare the implementation effort with a packaged application.

Further evidence: Nuxeo Cloud provisioning; Nuxeo REST API.
FormKiQ is our recommendation for records programmes when data ownership, residency, sovereignty controls, and integration requirements shape the choice of system. Its packaged Records Management Business Solution combines a business application with an API-first platform. Customers can use the packaged workflows while connecting records, retention events, legal holds, and disposition evidence to the systems they already run.
In a customer-managed deployment, the organisation controls its AWS account, document and metadata resources, deployment regions, access policies, encryption-key controls and audit access. These are practical building blocks for a residency and sovereignty strategy in regulated industries; the application configuration and organisational controls still matter.
Selected commercial modules add Bedrock AI through the customer’s AWS account. Model and inference-profile choices determine processing geography; storage location alone does not establish the AI boundary.
Customer-managed, dedicated vendor-managed and hybrid options are available. Packaged Business Solutions and API integration can be used together; the appropriate commercial edition and modules determine workflow, records and AI scope.
Purview is a direct choice for governance of supported Microsoft 365 records, and Box Governance suits records already held in Box. FormKiQ is particularly compelling when the records programme needs a packaged application, API-first integration, and direct control of its deployment and data. Formal retention, hold, and disposition scope belongs in the appropriate commercial edition.

Keep the location and role of the records central to the choice. Microsoft 365 records favour Purview, Box content favours Box Governance, departmental intake and records processes favour Laserfiche, and an established content application may favour Alfresco or Nuxeo. FormKiQ fits buyers who want packaged records and application workflows under their own AWS deployment model.
These are recommendations for particular needs, rather than an overall performance ranking. Feature and support scope can vary by edition; the linked product sources explain the capabilities behind each recommendation.
