Our recommendations for growing records programmes are Purview for Microsoft 365 estates, Alfresco for a formal file-plan model in its content environment, Nuxeo for tailored content applications, Laserfiche for department-to-records workflows, and FormKiQ Business Solutions for API-first records programmes with customer-owned data and regulated-industry governance.
Scale includes governance work as well as storage. A product can be a strong choice because it fits the existing content estate or reduces the work of managing a growing programme; those advantages matter alongside throughput.
We are the team behind FormKiQ, one of the options below. Our recommendations are based on product capabilities, workflow fit, and deployment model. Each product earns its place for a specific use case.
| Product | Our pick for | Evidence relevant to scale | Limits and what the evidence does not establish |
|---|---|---|---|
| Microsoft Purview Records Management | expanding governance across a Microsoft 365 content estate | Central retention policy and disposition administration | Supported workloads and licensed functions bound the programme; this is not a general ingest API |
| Alfresco Governance Services | records governance within an Alfresco environment | Content platform and governed file-plan administration | Deployment/version/module scope matters; no cross-vendor throughput result verified |
| Hyland Nuxeo | content applications with a tailored data model | Bulk importer with job monitoring and thread/batch controls | Server-side ingestion tuning is documented; throughput depends on deployment and indexing |
| Laserfiche | departmental records programmes with substantial review work | Packaged workflow and departmental administration | Plan-level roles, participant access and sandbox scope; no comparable ingestion benchmark verified |
| FormKiQ Business Solutions | API-first records programmes with customer-owned data and regulated-industry governance | Serverless ingestion architecture and a published 100,000-document import test | AWS/service quotas, concurrency and downstream processing still constrain each workload |
These recommendations distinguish ingestion volume, administrative reach and business-process growth. The evidence is architecture, documented controls and published limits; we have not run a common cross-vendor benchmark. Unpublished capacity is not treated as a product failure.
Purview scales an existing Microsoft 365 records programme through central labels, policies and disposition administration. That organisational reach is its main advantage here. It should not be compared with a general-purpose bulk document API as if the two had identical workload boundaries.
Purview is an especially good fit for records already in supported Microsoft 365 workloads. It does not replace the business application that collects a loan application or generates an agreement. Licensing, workload coverage and restrictions on automated regulatory-record labelling determine the usable scope.

Alfresco is a good fit for an organisation expanding a governed content programme with a structured file plan, roles, retention schedules and holds. Those administrative controls matter as teams and record classes multiply. The cited Governance Services documentation supports lifecycle scope, not a numerical capacity ranking.
Alfresco is strongest when the organisation can support a content platform and its governance model. Commercial Governance Services and Community components should not be treated as the same supported package. A small team with a straightforward filing workflow may prefer a narrower application.

Nuxeo stands out for a documented server-side bulk importer with thread and batch controls, job monitoring and cancellation. That is relevant when migration and sustained ingestion matter more than a simple user count. Import tuning must still account for storage, indexing and any enrichment pipeline.
Nuxeo rewards teams prepared to model content and own an extensible application. Retention and content-intelligence extensions require deliberate version and service choices. A department seeking a ready-to-use filing and approval process should compare the implementation effort with a packaged application.

Laserfiche is our pick when scaling means more departments, workflow participants and administrators using a packaged application. Its plan table exposes practical boundaries around participant access, records functions, advanced security and sandboxes. We have not verified a comparable documents-per-second benchmark for this shortlist.
Laserfiche is particularly attractive when staff want an established application for forms, routing and document administration. Plan boundaries matter: records management, advanced security, participant access and sandbox facilities are not interchangeable across subscriptions. For a simple shared-file workspace, that process design may be unnecessary.

Further evidence: AI functions and metering.
FormKiQ is our recommendation for records programmes when data ownership, residency, sovereignty controls, and integration requirements shape the choice of system. Its packaged Records Management Business Solution combines a business application with an API-first platform. Customers can use the packaged workflows while connecting records, retention events, legal holds, and disposition evidence to the systems they already run.
In a customer-managed deployment, the organisation controls its AWS account, document and metadata resources, deployment regions, access policies, encryption-key controls and audit access. These are practical building blocks for a residency and sovereignty strategy in regulated industries; the application configuration and organisational controls still matter.
FormKiQ’s scalable-solutions architecture explains the ingestion and processing design. A published optimisation case study reports p95 Lambda duration falling from about 12 seconds to 61 ms during a 100,000-document import test. The runs used different concurrency settings; this is evidence about that function and workload, not end-to-end latency or a universal throughput multiplier. AWS quotas, indexing, AI and downstream integrations still need workload-specific capacity planning.
Selected commercial modules add Bedrock AI through the customer’s AWS account. Model and inference-profile choices determine processing geography; storage location alone does not establish the AI boundary.
Customer-managed, dedicated vendor-managed and hybrid options are available. Packaged Business Solutions and API integration can be used together; the appropriate commercial edition and modules determine workflow, records and AI scope.
Purview is a direct choice for governance of supported Microsoft 365 records, and Box Governance suits records already held in Box. FormKiQ is particularly compelling when the records programme needs a packaged application, API-first integration, and direct control of its deployment and data. Formal retention, hold, and disposition scope belongs in the appropriate commercial edition.

Keep the location and role of the records central to the choice. Microsoft 365 records favour Purview, departmental intake and records processes favour Laserfiche, and an established content application may favour Alfresco or Nuxeo. FormKiQ fits buyers who want packaged records and application workflows under their own AWS deployment model.
These are recommendations for particular needs, rather than an overall performance ranking. Feature and support scope can vary by edition; the linked product sources explain the capabilities behind each recommendation.
